Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 chicken breasts (cut into strips)
  • 1/2 cup flour (sifted)
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 4 teaspoons corn starch
  • 2/3 cup water (for sauce)
  • Green onions (sliced, for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a glass bowl, mix flour, corn starch, baking powder, egg white, and water to create the batter.
  2. Add the chicken strips and stir until well-coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan to medium heat (350°F) – ensure enough oil to submerge the chicken.
  4. Using tongs, fry chicken in batches for about 5 minutes or until cooked through; check doneness by cutting into a piece.
  5. Transfer cooked chicken to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, honey, corn starch, and water for the sauce.
  7. In a frying pan over low heat, combine the sauce mixture and whisk continuously as it begins to boil.
  8. Once thickened, remove from heat and toss in the fried chicken until evenly coated.
  9. Serve in a bowl topped with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
