  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (for topping)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder (for topping)
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in melted butter, milk, and vanilla. If using walnuts, add them now.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 1.5 qt casserole dish or square pan.
  4. In another bowl, mix the topping ingredients: sugar, brown sugar, salt, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle over the batter without stirring.
  5. Carefully pour boiling water over the top; do not stir.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes until the top is almost set; a pudding will form underneath.
  7. Serve warm with ice cream.
